A distinguished pharmacist backed by more than two decades of experience, Brian M. Carfagna, Pharm.D., BCPS got his start in the industry upon earning a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience, with a behavioral and cognitive emphasis, from Allegheny College in 2001. Continuing his education, he attained a Doctor of Pharmacy from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2008. Dr. Carfagna became licensed as a pharmacy technician in 2002 and as a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist via the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in 2019.
Dr. Carfagna commenced his career as a pharmacy technician for CVS Pharmacy in 2001, remaining until 2004 when he served Grane Supply in the same capacity for one year. He gained additional expertise as a graduate pharmacy intern and as a pharmacist floater for CVS Pharmacies between 2008 and 2009. Since 2010, Dr. Carfagna has excelled as a pharmacist at UPMC Passavant Hospital, where he is responsible for dispensing medication, monitoring patients’ pharmacotherapy, providing drug information and direct patient care when needed, as well as pharmacokinetic and nutritional support.
Finding great success in his professional life, Dr. Carfagna was the recipient of an Award of Recognition for Excellence in Communication and Customer Service from UPMC Passavant Hospital in 2020. Simply put, he attributes his success to his strong work ethic and focus on helping his patients. To remain abreast of changes and developments to pharmacy, he maintains membership with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Pharmacists Association. In the next five to 10 years, Dr. Carfagna is considering joining the academic realm as an adjunct professor.
